Welcome to the California Department of Developmental Services Direct Support Professional Training portal.
Here, you can find the required training for people who work as direct support staff in licensed community care homes.
This includes administrators who also give direct care. The training teaches the basic skills needed to give good, safe support.
The classes and tests are free.
To begin, choose DSPT Year 1 or DSPT Year 2.
We also want to share a new learning program called Direct Support Professional University (DSPU). DSPU is free and optional. It is available through the Employee Development, Growth, and Education (EDGE) learning management system. DSPU gives Direct Support Professionals more chances to learn new things, practice skills, and grow in their jobs.
DSPU is different from the required Year 1 and Year 2 DSP training on this site. You can take DSPU classes whenever you want and choose the topics most helpful to you. If you want to learn more or make an EDGE account, visit the EDGE webpage at: Employee Development, Growth, and Education (EDGE) : CA Department of Developmental Services.
If you have not attended the Year 1 DSP training or have not passed the Year 1 test, you can register for a Year 1 course or challenge test in your area here.
If it has been one year since you passed the Year 1 test and you are ready to take the Year 2 course or challenge test, you can register here.
Employers (service providers) can no longer look up Direct Support Professional’s (DSP) training records. Click below for more information.
